Herbert S. Schechter, CPA
Mr. Schechter joined Minneapolis Portfolio Management Group, LLC in 2005 as Managing Director, providing technical resources and business development services to the firm. Prior to joining MPMG, he was a founding shareholder of Schechter, Dokken, Kanter, Andrews & Selcer, Ltd., a certified public accounting firm based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and served as managing shareholder of the firm. Earlier in his career, Mr. Schechter was a partner at Laventhal & Horwath, the seventh largest accounting firm in the U.S., and served as a managing partner of the Minneapolis office. In addition to his 46 years of accounting services experience, Mr. Schechter has authored and edited numerous publications, including auditing guides, tax handbooks, and technical practice aids published by the Minnesota Society of Certified Public Accountants, the American Institute of CPAs, Practitioners Publishing Co. and QuickFinder, Inc., subsidiaries of Thompson Publications. Additionally, he has taught accounting courses at the University of Minnesota’s Carlson School of Management and served as an executive mentor for the University of Minnesota’s Carlson School of Management MBA program. Mr. Schechter is a graduate of the University of Minnesota.
Mr. Shink joined Minneapolis Portfolio Management Group, LLC in 2004 as the firms Institutional Director. His primary responsibilities include developing and strengthening national client relationships. Prior to joining MPMG, Mr. Shink held the position of Financial Consultant at Smith Barney where he worked with high net worth individuals, foundations and endowments. He started his career in the financial services industry as a commodity broker focusing on hedging strategies for large family and corporate agricultural firms at Shearson Lehman Brothers. Mr. Shink served on the Advisory Council of the Children’s Hospital and Clinics, Minnesota as well as their Foundation task force. He is actively involved with Lawson’s Legacy and Camp Odayin. Mr. Shink holds an M.B.A. from the University of St. Thomas and received a B.S. degree in Applied Economics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Ms. Rude joined Minneapolis Portfolio Management Group, LLC when the firm was established in 2004 as Director of Client Operations. Previously, Ms. Rude served as a Registered Assistant for Minneapolis Portfolio Management Group at Wachovia Securities. She graduated in 1999 from the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire with a B.A. degree in Psychology.
Laura Friend, CIPM
Trading & Operations
Ms. Friend joined Minneapolis Portfolio Management Group, LLC in 2004 as Operations Associate. Prior to joining MPMG, she was a college intern with the firm while she completed her studies. Laura is a graduate from the University of St. Thomas with a B.A. degree in Financial Management.
Endowments & Pension Director
Jim brings a unique background to MPMG, and has broad experience with endowments and pensions. From 2013 through 2016, Jim was an employee of MPMG focusing on endowment and pension client relationships. Beginning in 2017, Jim established a solicitation agreement with MPMG allowing him the ability to independently solicit clients for MPMG. Jim was a member of the Minnesota State House of Representatives for twelve years, where he served as the Chair of the Government Operations Committee with jurisdiction over State pensions and served for twelve years as a St. Louis Park School Board Member. Jim serves on many non-profit boards including Chair of the St. Louis Park Community Foundation, and was recently named to the Board of Directors of Citizens Independent Bank. Jim also serves as a board member of the Consumer Credit agency of Minnesota, and the following St. Louis Park organizations: Friends of the Arts, Community Band, and Rotary Club. He is a former board member of the Park Nicollet Foundation, the Fire Civil Service Commission, Board of School Administrators, ClearWay Minnesota Board (where he was appointed by Governor Pawlenty/reappointed by Governor Dayton), and a Trustee of Brown College.
Ms. Hubert joined Minneapolis Portfolio Management Group, LLC in 2013 as Operations Associate. Prior to joining MPMG, she was a college intern with the firm for two years while she completed her studies. Kathryn is a recent graduate from the University of Minnesota’s Carlson School of Management with a BSB degree in Finance, minor in Marketing. She is currently a Level III Candidate in the CFA program.
Trading & Operations Associate
Mr. Johnson joined MPMG in 2014 as Trading & Operations Associate. Luke is a graduate of the University of Minnesota (BA, Economics), where he was an Evans Scholar. Luke worked as an Underwriting Coordinator at Optum Health before joining MPMG in September of 2014.
